One of Europe’s ‘best beaches’ offers white sand and ‘beautiful views | Travel News | Travel

When you think of a beach destination in Europe you might think of the lively coastlines of Spain or the crystal blue waters of Greece. However, new research by Wizz Air has listed Finland as home of the best beach destinations – especially if you’re planning a solo trip.

Of all of Finland’s beaches, Wizz Air highlighted Yyteri as ‘one of the most beautiful beaches” in the entire country.

Not only does Finland score highly for its natural beauty, the research also shows it is one of the safest places to visit for a beach holiday.

According to Wizz Air’s safety index, Finland scored 73.2 out of 100 – among the highest of all of the European beach destinations included in the index.

“The list combines the expected sunny showstoppers such as Italy, Spain and Greece (all in the top 10) with some countries whose beaches are not so well known,” said Tamara Vallois, head of communications at Wizz Air.

Finland’s Yyteri beach is the longest beach in Scandinavia, spanning 6km, and promises plenty of white sand backed by rolling dunes. The beach is also part of a nature conservation area and has been given a Blue Flag award.

The total recreation area spans 39 hectares, including the sandy beach area and wooden footpaths connecting. There are also a number of amenities including two toilets, a barbecue area and a car park.

As the water is fairly shallow along the coastline, it’s a good place for families, with plenty of opportunities to paddle on sunny days.

Though Finland may be known for its icy winters, where temperatures can plummet to as cold as -20C, the summers offer sunshine and average highs of 22C in the Satakunta region where Yyteri is located. However, it’s not just the summer months when Yyteri is popular.

According to a local from the area, who shared a review on Tripadvisor: “The view is beautiful, there is a lot of space since the beach is very long, the place is perfect for winter as well – you can go sledging on the hills. The water is kinda shallow, so for deeper water you need to walk pretty far.”

Another visitor to the beach dubbed it “the most beautiful” beach in all of Finland.

“Such a beautiful and nice beach in Finland! I think it’s the best one in the country,” they said. “Very clean. Great infrastructures on site such as toilets and cold showers which are very practical. No deep waters along the shore which is perfect with children.” [SIC]
