Tenerife holiday warning issued over huge problem at airport | Europe | Travel

Holidaymakers in Tenerife have been issued a warning over one of the Spanish island’s two airports.

TikTok user @seb_tenerife, a Brit who now lives in Tenerife, recently uploaded a video from inside Tenerife South airport, where he was waiting for an early morning flight.

He warned people that they need to prepare if they have early morning departures from Tenerife South, as he found the place to be a “ghost town” with every shop and eatery closed.

“I’m in Tenerife airport now, it’s about 4.30am and my flight’s at 5.30am,” he said. “If you are flying from the south airport, make sure you’ve either eaten before or brought your own food with you.

“Because it is like a ghost town. There is nothing open. All of it is shut.”

Seb then panned around the airport to show how all the shops and restaurants had their shutters down. He added: “Or bring coins as there are quite a few vending machines that only take coins.”

Reacting in the comments section below his video, several tourists revealed they had faced the same problem on previous holidays to Tenerife.

One said: “Same with us in March… Duty free was closed too.” A second said: “I made this same mistake in July. I genuinely thought duty free was open 24/7.”

A third said: “We just flew back out there absolute joke of an airport and they expect to keep holidaymakers happy.”

Seb previously issued another warning to tourists in Tenerife, telling them to “be careful” regarding scammers and pickpockets.

He pinpointed one specific trouble spot on the island – the beachfront resort of Playa de las Americas and the nearby strip known as Veronica’s. He warned: “Las Americas does seem to be the spot where it’s all happening, especially down Veronica’s […] So aye, just be careful, watch your belongings, and you’ll be absolutely sound.”
