The worst city in the world for British expats to work named – full list | Travel News | Travel

‌Many British expats move abroad to seek a new job opportunity. However, this isn’t always easy.

According to the InterNations Expat Insider survey, Rome is the worst city in the world for British expats looking to work abroad.

Only one in 10 expats thought the job market in the Italian capital was good compared to 47 percent globally.

More than a third of expats surveyed said that moving to Rome hadn’t improved their career prospects while people also felt they didn’t have much job security.

One American expat told the survey: “The job market is very difficult to navigate, especially if you’re older than your 30s.”

More than twice the global average thought the local economy was poor while only a third felt they were paid fairly for the work they did.

Fewer than two in five expats were satisfied with their job in Rome, making it the worst place in the world for expats looking for work.

Seoul, the capital of South Korea, did similarly poorly in the survey. Nearly half of expats living there were unhappy with the work-life balance.

Expats generally worked more than 44 hours a week in South Korea, higher than the global average of 42 hours a week.

Nearly two thirds of expats said they weren’t allowed to work remotely in South Korea and many felt the working culture wasn’t flexible.

Istanbul also performed poorly in the working abroad ranking. Expats felt they didn’t have much job security in the Turkish city.
