‘Beautiful beach’ is one of the prettiest places for a walk this Christmas ‌ | Travel News | Travel

Is there anything quite like meeting family and friends and going for a walk along the beach on Christmas day?

While the beach is usually far more crowded during summer, the British coast is just as beautiful during winter.

According to the expert team at Verdant Leisure, Belhaven Beach in East Lothian is one of the UK’s favourite winter walks.

A spokesperson said: “Found among the rolling hills of John Muir Country Park, Belhaven Beach is the ideal spot for a frosty beach saunter while taking in the scenic views of the Forth Estuary.

“The bay, which has been given a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor with little reports of rain, offers grasslands, sand dunes and rich salt marsh which spans all the way from Belhaven to the north of the River Tyne.

“A sandy stroll here will also mean you’re in with a chance to spot some ancient castle ruins, adding a bit of history to your walk.”

The pretty dune-backed beach is one of Scotland’s prettiest beach walks and it’s dog friendly as long as they’re kept under control.

A tourist ‘LisaFoster’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Beautiful beach. Lovely place, walked right along, walked over a little bridge.”

‘Val Bayliss-Brideaux’ wrote: “The beach was so quiet when we visited. Beautiful sandy beach, very clean and not busy at all.”

‘KarenBoydie’ said: “Beautiful unspoiled beach. I can’t compliment this beach enough.”

Look out for Belhaven Bridge which is often described as the “bridge to nowhere”. Although the bridge can be crossed at low tide, it’s almost submerged at high tide.
